"How will EVs and self-driving technology change the "manufacturing methods" of automobiles?"
Yoshiro Tsuruhara (Technology Journalist / editor)
CEO
AutoInsight,Inc.
The auto industry is experiencing the greatest change “in 100 years,” as the development of electric cars, connected vehicles and self-driving cars is promoted. Automobiles are expected to change into “something that is different from automobiles” in 20 years. How will automobiles change? How will the change impact the “manufacturing methods” of cars? In the lecture, possible alterations will be forecast based on "changes already experienced" by other industries.
13:30 p.m. - 14:30 p.m. (Numazu Hall 1) / The second floor / 350 seats)" (Available in English/Japanese) (Gotemba is a satellite venue / 150 seats)
Japan's manufacturing reform the Industrial Value Chain Initiative is looking to achieve: Efforts toward the Fourth Industrial Revolution based on "loosely defined standards"
Isao Fukumoto (Evangelist)
IP Promotion Committee Chair
Industrial Value Chain Initiative
The Industrial Value Chain Initiative (IVI) is a group of manufacturing and other companies to develop mechanisms to realize “Connected Manufacturing” and works to make the Japanese version of the Fourth Industrial Revolution a reality by creating an environment where people are linked with each other. The lecture will explain present circumstances facing IoT technologies both in Japan and abroad as well as the IVI's outline, activity, projects, and efforts to set international standards.
15:00 p.m. - 16:00 p.m. (Gotemba Hall 8) / 150 seats)
“Monozukuri” and machine tools in the times of IoT and Industry 4.0
Dr. Shinji Shimizu (President of MAMTEC)
Professor Emeritus
Sophia University
Industry 4.0 proposed by Germany, and the introduction of IoT into the “Monozukuri“ are being promoted across the world through various projects in order to revolutionize “Monozukuri“. We will consider by what kind of factors the “Monozukuri” is influenced in those circumstances, how it will change, and what kind of revolution in the machine tools is required with the changes.

Trends of combined use of multiple materials, related technologies, and future forecast
Kouji Chiba
Body and Closure Engineering Group
Body Engineering Department
Platform and Vehicle Component Engineering Division
Nissan Motor Co.,Ltd
Moves different from conventional ones are made today in connection with automobiles, such as strengthening of restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions and the development of electric cars. Under such circumstances, combined use of multiple materials is spreading, so right materials can be used for right parts. In the lecture, the background of the move, the objective of developing multi-material car body, recent trends, relevant technologies (materials and joining techniques), and technologies that could be required in the future, will be outlined.

Artificial intelligence spreading across the globe and the manufacturing business
Junichi Tsujii, Ph.D.
AIST Fellow
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (AIST)
With the advancement of IoT and robotics, not only conventional artificial intelligence to mainly think of something in cyberspace but artificial intelligence to recognize and behave are being developed. Such new artificial intelligence technologies are expected to be adopted for industries from manufacturing to logistics and medical and nursing care, so they will drastically change the current industrial structure. The lecture will give a general view of the present and future circumstances of artificial intelligence by mainly introducing the research of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.
