In March 2012, the X-ray Free Electron Laser "SACLA", which is able to view "the smallest objects in the world", started operation. Mr. Yuji SANO of Toshiba Corporation, who was closely involved with its construction, will give an overview of the facility and talk about the latest research trends in the field of surface modification of metal materials, where it is hoped the technology can be applied in cutting-edge fields including energy and aircraft.

Surgeon Mr. Maki SUGIMOTO, who developed organ modelling technology that fuses medicine and engineering for the reproduction of bio-textures, will discuss case studies of state-of-the-art medical treatment technologies, including 3D bio-texture modelling using 3D printers, and surgical robots.

A team from Tokai University entered the top LMP1 category of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in France, which boasts a 90-year history. Mr. Yoshimasa HAYASHI, who led the student team, will talk about the fruits of eleven years in engine and chassis development, overcoming difficulties and refining technical capabilities and human qualities, as well as race management and its relevance to corporate activities.
