Engineering exhibits On-Demand Decoration System

May 13, 2015

Toshiba Machine Engineering,a member of the Toshiba Machine Group, has established a division fordeveloping the "Optimum Goods Making" in October, 2010 to meet thecustomers' diverse requests caused by the rapid change in the industrialstructures. Since then we have been intensifying our systemengineering business, we are now focusing on the decoration system businessthat deals with adding decorations such as printing and coating to plasticmaterials.

At thistime, as the solution to the recessed surface where the direct decoration by inkjetis difficult, we offer the film-insertion decoration using a film that wasdecorated by inkjet. Since decoration films are prepared using inkjet, decoration films not particularlysuitable to be manufactured in a wide variety but small quantity production, become available by an on-demand basis. With this On-Demand Decoration System we seek to expand our capability rangeto meet the customers' requests for decorations.

Proposal of theOn-Demand Decoration System for the wide variety but small quantity production:

The system has achieved an in-line production of 50sets/second of the consecutive molding/decorating processes of applying film onthe mold; molding; extraction; pre-printing treatment(plasma radiation); printing on a three-dimensional surface. Also, the Roll-to-Roll Inkjet Decoration Machineenables a continuous decoration of films without printing plates.
˜・Main Features:
1) Decoration on the recessed surface of products by thefilm insertion within the molding cycle.
2) Decoration with the film having image design such asphoto or drawing is realized.
3) Also, by using our robot, character printing on the three-dimensionalarea can be carried out.

˜・Proposal for the pre-treatment enhancing adhesionon plastic materials and for the method of using ink and printing:
1) The affinity between ink and the surface of plastic canbe improved by applying a plasma treatment to molded products.
2) The adhesion level of ink can be improved by adjusting atthe time of printing the amount of ink drop and the conditions of the UVradiation.

˜・Inkjet On-Demand Film Decoration supportsproductions in a wide variety but small quantity.
˜・The Roll-to-Roll InkjetDecoration Machine performs continues film decoration and supports theon-demand productions in a wide variety but small quantity.
We are seeking to insert this machineinto the molding equipment line in future.

This decoration systemwill be exhibited for the first time at the Toshiba Machine Group Solution Fair2015 to be held from Thursday, May 21 toSaturday, May 23.
